Twitter Shuts Down #Music Application

For those of you who forgot, Twitter’s mobile app #Music still exists….but not for long. Despite the hype the social media company built for the application, it did not resonate well with Twitter users and quickly became forgotten by those who downloaded it over the past year. It was officially removed from the App Store  yesterday and will cease to function starting April 18:

#Music was built as a service to help social media users discover new types of genres and artists, but it never really caught fire compared to other applications such as Songza and Last.fm. It’s not too much of a surprise as there is a wealth of competition in the mobile environment and Twitter failed to keep users engaged. However, the company has mentioned that it plans to keep being innovative and come up with new ways to engage its audience:

R.I.P. #Music.
