Jobvite, a popular resource to learn about the latest trends in hiring and recruiting, has recently released its 2014 Job Seeker study. The study compiled survey data to discover how the regular social media user leverages the emerging digital marketing trend to explore new career opportunities. Last year, the 2013 Jobvite study discovered that a significant percentage of employed respondents indicated that they were actively searching for new jobs. It seems that the number has increased even more this year, as more than half of the members questioned in Jobvite’s study are either actively looking for new careers or are open to new ventures. With regards to social media, the pertinent results are as follows:
Facebook Leads the Pack
While recruiting professionals prefer to leverage LinkedIn’s employer tools for filtering through candidates, job seekers seem to gravitate towards Facebook when it comes to finding new career opportunities. In fact, 83% of social job seekers currently user Facebook to find new jobs, and 76% of users questioned indicated that they discovered their current position via the leading social media site.
LinkedIn Lagging Behind Major Networks
The most shocking result of the study was that only 36% of social job seekers actively use LinkedIn to find new career opportunities, despite the professional social media network being a prime resource for recruiting and hiring professionals. There seems to be a disconnect between social job seekers and recruiting professionals, but that should change in the future as LinkedIn continues to evolve and adapt its platform and news feeds to resemble Facebook.
